    Question

I recently downloaded a personal edition of Oracle 8i software. Upon installation, I went through a wizard to set up an initial database. Now I am unable to access it. Whenever I try using what I think is a default username/password, I get the error "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener". What do I need to do?

    Hi

If you have a created a default initial database you dont need to type the connect string Just try accessing the database by using the following user id which comes with oracle

    user password

    sys change_on_install

    system manager

these are two users which are created by default by oracle database.

If this still does not connect let us know what operating system you are using so that we can troubleshoot further

    Regards

    Question

I tried accessing using the user ids stated, but with the system id I got a window asking for an additional password, and with the sys id I immediately got the error "Oracle not available". I am running this on Windows 98. What can I do?

check the alert log file, what does it say ? check what happened while installation, check the installation log file also.
