    alert.log

Hi write a script to delete periodically the alert log files...That way you can
avoid growing the logfiles...I am runnung a automated script to resize and delete
the log files.Nothing will happen ...it is fine to database.
    Thanks.

What I do with my alert.log file is not delete but just simply rename it and keep it as a reference.

I do a alter system switch logfile so the alert.log gets a current time stamp. I then rename it alert.log.yyymmdd where yyymmdd is the current timestamp. I also rename any trace files that have been created with the same timestamp as the alert.log so I can keep a catalog of what has happened on the database. I usually keep my old trace and alert.log files for about 6 months.

Once I have renamed all the files I do another alter system switch logfile to create a new alert.log

    hi

the best solution is to archive the alert files or better si to have emailed them to you at perodic intervals.this you can periodically check for the health of your database.
