    Hi,

    I am trying a recover a database (ver 8.1.6 on Solaris). I execute the following command:

    alter database recover using backup controlfile until cancel;
    alter database recover logfile '/opt/oracle/archive/abc.trc'

    I got a core dump and then a end-of-file on the communication channel. Now how do restart the database from os? Or what are the reasons behind this error?

    Ravi

    look at the alert, it is difficult to tell what went wrong. when looking at v8.1.6 patch list i saw some resone for core dump, the one that look to me like it may be your case is problem with disk, but it is gust a wild gess. i need more info. post your alert log.
