Thread: offline tablespace backup

    i'm trying to back up an offline tablespace but keep getting a permission denied...i have dba privileges...what other privilege/permission do I need ??

    What is the OS ?

    How are you trying to backup the *data files* under that tablespace ?

    i'm backing up the tablespace using copy command on unix...
    here's what I did:

    cp /ora02/oradata/nvl1/tstvis2.dbf /data/oracle_dump/tstvis2/tstvis2.backup

    the error I got was:
    cp: cannot create /data/oracle_dump/tstvis2/tstvis2.backup: permission denied

    seems like you don't have write permission in the target directory /data/oracle_dump/tstvis2/

    Try creating or copying a small file in that directory to confirm this. If this is the case you will need to talk to your Unix admin for permissions.
