Set your ORACLE_HOME to 8.1.6 client

then set other environment parameters. Then make sure that you have the entry for the server on your tnsnames.ora, could be found under ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/ Once you confirm that you can connect to the server as

    username/passwq@servicename

or set your service name under TWO_TASk and then you can just enter user name and password.

ORA-12154: Could not resolve service name

I already set my oracle_sid to Client 8.1.6 and configure my tnsname.ora to access my database, but i didn't have result. Do you thing that the problem is on application or some Visual Basic component?

    Thanks.

you will find multiple tnsnames.ora files on this client machine.

Update all of them properly. In the process, you can find out which one it is exactly looking at.
