Error 997 overlapped I/O operation in Progress

I am new to Oracle and am presently working on my DBA. I have Oracle 8i Personal Edition for Windows 2000 installed on my personal computer, which is a Pentium II 350 MHz with 256k ram. When I try to start my database, I get "Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation in progress."

How do I troubleshoot this error and correct it?

Ok i had the same configuration as you said except PII-Mine PIII.

Ok coming to the problem go check it up in the oracle services ==>properties==>log on==>uncheck the property service to interact with desktop.

This problem i had and it was fine over.

also let me know how much free space you have in oracle home drive( c:\ or d:\).

Please let me know if you still have problem.

I unchercked the property service to interact with desktop and this did not solve my problem. TUhe size of my Oracle Home folder is 602 MB of which 549 is used, so I have 51 MB of free space in my Oracle Home directory. My drive D: where my Oracle files are has 3.64 GB of free space.

Ok now try to remove the service with ORADIM and create a new service.

Is the service started or not .I mean the status in the task manager ?

Did you run the service pack1 for win2000.?

Make the lsnr service manual and restart to see what happens.

I too have a new problems which i have posted on this forum.

The service status is starting always .I have to manually start via SVRMGRL and work on with DB.

Have you used the Configuration Assistant to configure a repository for the database? You have to have a repository set up and then go to Services and startup the Oracle Management Server.
