Maybe this has been hashed time and over again here but does anyone think that outsourcing operations (maybe not development) leads to efficiency and cost reduction ? I do not think so for the following reasons :-
- It's a pain to deal with the outsourcer who do not your apps. and are running your servers and db.'s. The're just hitting buttons and running scripts for you !
- Sometime's the outsourcer's DBA's act on their own and communications breakdowns occur
- Client DBA's lose control when systems are outsourced and well
I can go on about costs when they charge us for everything under the sun from simple things like sending over log files etc. etc.

same as anything, it works if run correctly
no different that if you have separate dev / db teams on different floors who never talk to each other
