Thought I would just drop a note to tell you some of the things I found useful in doing my OCP DBA (currently I’ve completed 3 of the Oracle8 exams – Pl/SQL, DBA, Backup. Hope to finish by the end of the year).
I found a site named ‘The Learning Network’ http://www.thelearningnetwork.com/
After subscribing to it, check out their Oracle questions! I found them almost identical to the STS! But subscription is only half the price. Of course, it means that you have to logon to the site to do the questions. Which can have its problems (a little slow).
Honestly though, I think there should be some copyright infringement there. I paid for access to this site first, then brought the STS expecting different questions…but I was wrong. Luckily my company has paid for everything otherwise I would be sending some rather abusive emails ;)
Anyway, if you want cheap identical questions to the STS go there.
I used the Backup and Recovery workshop study guide, which was very good. It was a lot better than Jason S. Couchman’s book because it was interesting, and more relevant to Real life DBAing.
Jasons book I find is very dry and boring. Plus those questions are next to useless. I’d rather read something with a bit more of a human element in it :)
And one last note, OCP DBA exams are much easier than the MCSE DBA exams (One of the SQL Server Questions has 7 checkboxes and you need to select true and false for each one…for one mark!)
Good luck everyone on the exams!!!
Kind Regards,
Bob!

Bob:
Thanks for all the tips.
One question....Where do you find the "Backup and Recovery workshop study guide". I could not find it on Amazon.com
Thats the direct route...otherwise you click on the egg (see beyond the obvious) :)
Then click on the courses, and select backup and recovery. You'll be then presented with slides and notes from Howard. It was a real help for studing for backup and recovery.
The other subjects, like DBA, have a few resources on them, but nothing really much (unfortunately).
I think Howard should write a OCP DBA book ;)
Thanks for all the praise everyone!!!!!
Bob!
P.s The document (backup and recovery doc) is written by the author, and so is free...thus the reason why you can't find it on Amazon :)
