I am new to Oracle. I see different server manager commands. I am confused with different commands. I found only certain works at certain place. I need to understand, especially where to use each one? Please help me to understand these commands. Thanks

and the l in svrmgrl is for line (as in line mode).

And you'll find l in svrmgrl also on NT (so it is not only for Unix world as per Mr.Hanky) since 8i.
Prior to 8i on NT you couldn't have multiple oracle_homes fro database software. So to be able to install different versions of binaries into same directory, they added a two-diggit suffix to most of the executables.
So for NT it is:
svrmgr23.exe - for database release 7.3
svrmgr30.exe - for database release 8.0
svrmgrl.exe - for database release 8.1

But I don't think it's worthy to spend too much time on server manager. It's removed in Oracle 9i and "CONNECT INTERNAL" is not supported any more.

yeah..thatz true !! i heard that oracle wants to get rid of this server manager and wanted to use only SQL plus for ething..u can find in oracle 8i wherein u can connect as internal in SQL plus.....i.e. sqlplus /nolog...
