unix question: unzip a file

What is the syntax to unzip this export dump file
on a sun platform?

devedb_export.dmp.gz

gunzip
or
unzip

Not uncompress?

Uncompress works only for .Z extension. And I do not belive unzip works either. Only gunzip works.
