lsnrctl stop , status , log_status throws error

hi

Using 10g on advance server linux 2.1
10.1

Ip address is issued by DHCP SERVER.

LISTENER is up and running BUT I AM getting these errors while i am executing.

by the way, DHCP belongs nowhere near a database (or any other) server

Set tnsadmin before opening lsnrctl and try.

Or go to the oracle home bin and then start lsnrctl.

I am able to start the server no issues in that.

my question is
when the listener is started and when i want to see the status it throws error.

where there is HOST word mentioned i gace both IP address ie ( 192.168.1.135) and also hostname ie oracle10g.pdcindscape.com

that listener is running on port 1522, the stuff before was looking on port 1521.

So whats the deal here?

yes i tired all things here

i tried port 1521 didnt work on - lsnrctl status & stop

then i changed to
port 1522 still didnt work - lsnrctl status & stop

now back to 1521 still no luck.

i did as per u per no luck. Listener is up and running.

1 I think in your previous post of listener.ora file, you have skipped
some entries.

2. Run services command and paste the result.

this is the entry in the /etc/hosts

DHCP i mean the ip address to this server is private IP.
It is not having a public IP ie 216 or 64 series.

we have a dhcp server that issues the IP address.

but for this server we have kept the IP address fixed.
while installing linux we gave this ip address.

i restarted the network service

and the worst part is when i log in to lsnrctl and do start it starts
it doesnt say listener already started.
it starts as if i am starting the listener first time.

Still you have not given the complete listener.ora file.

I can able to replicate the error this side with a
change in my listener.ora file.

Post your listener.ora file.

Check whether you have anyother listener.ora file the system.

Thank u, because u were the one who solved this.

It was not pinging with oracle10g.pdcindscape.com.
It was ping with 192.168.1.35

I checked with sysadmin and then it was found the dns entry to this server was oracle10.pdcindscape.com

The DNS entry for this server was put as oracle10.pdcindscape.com

changed it and now its pinging and also showing the status of listener.

2 full days didnt get a clue of checking for DNS entry.

i did ping 192.168.1.35 and it was pinging.

i should have used ping -a 192.168.1.35 -t command at that moment would have got this .

anyway learnt something.

I have basically the same problem before, that is why your problem looks familiar to me and that is why my first question to you was to tackle with the Domain Name.
Though you only mentioned the DHCP server, you forgot to mention your DB server being part of the DNS Server. When Pando ask you to post the /etc/hosts, and your entry seems to be valid the only clue left was, something had overrides the name resolution of your hostname. And that could be DNS Server, because DNS Server has a high priority than a local host when network resolves hostname.
