RAC question

I am new to RAC implementation and have some questions.
Is there anyway I can reduce the "Brown out" period? The browning period is when the application experiences delay in response from the RAC database because surviving instance remasters the resources of the failed instance and perform recovery.
Have anybody experienced this brown out (application experiencing delay) period in RAC environment? Your responses will be of great help.

We are still in the process of building RAC and haven't tested yet.I am trying to find out if anybody had experienced this lag time and whats the average time was?

depends on your mttr settings

So we can control the response time by setting "FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET". Our business requirement is that the response time should not exceed more than 5 secs.I know setting too low value is a performance overhead ...lot of disk IOs.What do you think the average value for this parmeter?

well how about when you set it up, you TEST it to see what is good for you

Thanks. That is what I am going to do once I setup my RAC environment.But In mean time I am trying to find out if any body had experienced this in their RAC environments.
