Hello DBA's:
Planning to Install and configure 817 on AIX. I was reading through release notes, admin guide and installation guide and was not able to find the "Semaphore Configuration" at all.
But where as in Solaris, I could find.. Is the Semaphore config depends on hardware and OS.. If yes, how do I know or confirm that I need or don't need... Any web sites, pointing to AIX installations for oracle, do let me know..
I also searched metalink and there is a doc under technical libraries, dataserver, unix and unserstanding semaphores.. I read through the same, but could not understand if it is needed for an AIX system...

You do not need to change any kernel parameter in AIX.
A post-wait kernel extention has to be installed before you can use oracle on AIX.
In the installation guide you find everything you need to know.
Don't forget to take a look at the required APAR's before you start installing oracle.

Thanks for the info Gert.. Yes I did check the metalink and found out that ONLY for IBM-AIX semaphore config is automatic.. That makes it easy.. BY the way what is APAR's...
