Oracle 10g installation
I have oracle9i installed on Sun Solaris 5.9 and ORACLE_BASE is /ora01/app/oracle.There is a .profile for user oracle.The current oracle_home is /ora01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.
I plan to install 10g (to upgrade 9i to 10g later ) using the same ORACLE_BASE and new oracle-home /ora01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.
Do I need to create a new user oracle10 to different the oracle9i owner and oracle10g owner? If not, How to make change to .profile?
Thanks for your input!

no you dont need to, you use oraenv after to change settings
-
No, you do not need to create a new user for 10g.
With vi editor, change the Oracle home in .profile.
If you need to work on both Oracle homes, create a script for each where you set the corresponding environment. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. This is the ponit I am not clear about. I don't know 'how to create a script for each where you set the corresponding environment'. Can user oracle have more than one .profile?
Thanks!

the answer is no....u just use if then else logic within the profile
but...
for simplicity just create another userid and home for 10g
like oracle10 so you won't mess both homes. :D
