For me, a table is fragmentated is when the segment containts chained rows and migrated rows

Have him run some reports on the fragemented tables and let him see the results .you dont have to explain him anything hehe

probably the manager will end up being a DBA too..!! :)
tell him to imagine a ruler, this is a datafile.
tell him between 1 and 5 cm's is a table, between 6 and 10 is another table.
Add some rows to table 1. The table is now 1 to 5 cm's and 11 to 13 cm's.
Add some rows to table 2.
Table 1 has a chunk at the start of the ruler and near the end.
Table 2 is also in 2 chunks.
Over time a table can be twenty little chunks of info or in pieces(fragments). This is called fragmentation.
The manager would not ask that question at all.
