hi,
i didn't know where to post this question, i know i can find great guys here, so i am posting it here.
i forgot the root password on my sun solaris box. i wont be able to change from any other user.
how can i get it or make a change ,if so from where?
thanks
-
As far as I know, if you forget root password, you have to recreate the system. Please correct me if I were wrong.
-
Have no fear, there is a way. I would post the procedure, but my conscience prevents me from doing so. Email me directly and I'll send you steps...
-
If Jeff's way doesn't work, post your email address and I'll send you the steps. Good thought Jeff.

Hi Guys,
Do you guys have some systems program to find the password or are you following some steps to break thru the solaris security.
Just curious

thanks sambavan,
i tried to shutdown the system and boot it up but i need superuser/root privelege to do the steps u sent me
right now i am logged in as oracle and i dont hve root piveleges

Hi
Try to find thru /etc/passwd file if any user has userid as 0 if somebody has userid as 0 he has a root/superuser privilege. If you dont have any user with userid zero then last option as irehman stated sun support.

hi,
only super user has userid as 0
-
Then its time to call the sun support for help. That way you wouldn't have to waste any more time. Once after doing that create sudoer option and use it to execute.
check /etc/group and see who are all under the group zero. If there are some one, then they would be able to change the root password or add you to the root group
