Somehow our coldback copy of a database is not usable. We have available a hot OS backup copy of all data files without shutting down the database. Does anyone know if there any parameter that we could set in the init file so that we can startup the database by justing restoring all OS files? (I remember there was one to ignore files out of sync. And there is no data changes during OS file backup, so we don't worry about this).

I dont think you can ever use a hotbackup in no archive log mode. It seemss like you dont have a DBA, if you do have one I suggest you to fire him heh :D
