I have the services OracleServiceprod & OracleStartprod on the Windows NT 4 Server, Oracle 7.3.4.4 but I have just created a Oracle 8.1.7 database and I only have the OracleServiceprod on the server. I created the service via oradim -new -sid prod .... and created the database using a script.
Is there a difference between 7.3.4 and Oracle 8.1.7 services on Windows NT? I know OracleService starts the instance, and OracleStart should start the database. How do I set the database startup automatic if this service is missing? Thanks.

I guess in 8i.
oracleservioceSID also starts the database.
check that.

I have just read some info. on metalink and in Oracle 8i the service OracleStart has gone. You now need to set the key ORA_sid_AUTOSTART=true in registry to automatically start the database.
