ORA-01840: input value not long enough for date format

Hi,

i make a SELECT query and i have a error message:
ORA-01840: input value not long enough for date format.
My select query is:
Select to_date(datliv,'yyyymmdd') from table@ggos;

I have the same message error when i make this in pl/sql Procedure.

What is the datatype of the column DATLIV?

If it's CHAR or VARCHAR2, the values returned by the following select are the troublemakers:

SELECT datliv FROM table@ggos
WHERE LENGTH(datliv) < 8;

However I have the strange feeling that the datatype of DATLIV is DATE. If this is tru then use TO_CHAR, not TO_DATE:

Select TO_CHAR(datliv,'yyyymmdd') from table@ggos;
