Error : java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert between UTF8 and UCS2: failUTF8Conv

i am getting the following the error wen i am converting the data to italy. it is working fine when i run the select statement on sql prompt. but when i try it from gui(jsp) i am getting this error.

Error : java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert between UTF8 and UCS2: failUTF8Conv

please help me how to overcom this .
