I've installed on my machine oracle 8i home edition for windows 98. then i've upgraded to xp.
now to business i'm trying for the last 3 days to connect the the developer to the database and...nothing. I can't get the listener to work (I guess this is the prablom).
I coul'd really use some guidance.

Check your listener. Specifiaclly check the machine name in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora. also make sure that \oracle\ora81\bin is in the path.

check the status of the listener
if listener is down then start the listener
---- \oracle\ora81\bi\lsnrctl > start
