docs management systems

Hi,

My boss is looking for some products that manage scanned
docs because we got lots of documents like land titles,passports,
birth cert, cotracts,etc.
What is the advantage of this DOCS management system? like
HUMMINGBIRD, FILENET, etc. They manage images and put in
on a JUKE BOX of optical disks. But it maintains an index database
on an oracle db.

I am just wondering why not put the images on the database itself
so it is faster to retrieve and besides hadisk now is bigger like 200gb
each compared to optical disk which are slow and has smaller
capacity.
