agent generally has properties file as below. in which all parameters are set.
$OH/sysman/config/emd.properties
Can you paste o/p of "emctl status agent"
also when you say "emctl start agent" does it says failed.
you can see or paste log files under "$OH/sysman/log"
main files are emagent.trc emdctl.trc.....

Thanks parag.
I could drill down and the jvm.dll was corrupted. HAd to reinstall to keep this going good.
Now i need to know how to add other remote instances to this OEM to have an integrated monitoring.
BAck in 9i it was so clear and easy to add instances to OEM.
it is in 10g as well, just install like agent like you did on 9i
as davey said, just install the agent on the host and it (should) discover all the targets avaliable. I find pulling the agents from the OEM the simplest method, just give the agentdownload scripts the OEM details and it'll do the rest.
Can you brief me a lil elaborate?
In 9i i used to add database to the tree which connects to the remote host and upon contacting the agent it refreshes all the databases and puts under my db tree in 9i OEM window.
I have two servers, A has oracle 10g oem database and a dev database. In this server I have the OEM set up and it picks up the dev database to EM window using the 10g agent. Now in this 10g EM window i want all my production 9i db's which runs on remote server B. I have the agent running on server B and the service names are listed in 10g tnsnames file.
How should i add all the 9i db's on my 10g EM?
Thanks
you install the 10g agent
10g agent is installed and working!
How to add the iinstances?
Log into OEM... Targets/Databases/Add and follow instructions :)Quote:

I do not see even i login to the database the path you have given. I fear I am not in right track. Is that some thing I am missing?
so you are using dbconsole - the single instanc eonly thing
I have been asking how to add all the instances together under one EM window?Quote:

You are on 10g, aren't you?
Looking at your questions you have a long way to go.
Search Metalink for "Grid Control", if you do not have access to metalink just google it.
Dear Manasa,
Install oracle 10g Client.
Path in installation Disk1
E:\Disk1\client.
Run the setup.exe and you will get the Enterprise Manager console just as in oracle 9i.
You can add Database to Tree and manage it.
GRID Control is mainly used for managing the Databases, AS together in a single interface.
Try it and revert back with results.
Manasa, I think you're getting confused with 2 entirely different products here. 10g introduced a new product called DBConsole, with which you can access a database & administer it via a URL - this is what you are getting when you type in: http:\\local_host:1381\em\console
What you need to do is exactly as pareshjavkar has said, which is to install the client version of OEM. (Sorry, pareshjavkar, didn't want to hijack your good advice, but just wanted to explain things to Manasa a bit better.)

I am now getting
Can some experts say do i need grid control to manage all my databases under one EM console? or just the 10g EM console is enough?
Where can i download the client version?Quote:

search for download at technet.oracle.com.
By the way people, why is it that in my 9i-cleint I can update, insert, delete
rows using the database tree navigator pane drilling down to the table level.
But now in 10g client It doesnt allow me anymore to edit rows. Why is that
it keeps on getting less functional while they upgrade this client thing:rolleyes:
Thanks
The 10g version also doesn't show locks any more (which is the one thing I need, using the 3rd party software that we have!)Quote:

you are supposed to use database control in 10g, the Web administration interface
if you want to administer more than one database you need to have a look at Grid Control
all the old fancy packs such as diagnostics, tuning works in web
i see....do they plan to abolish this gui based OEM cleint dear?
OH BOOOOY...its so hard to set-up this db grid control thing, especially whenQuote:

Yeah I know, & it's very good - but why give us OEM (even with its missing features) if we're supposed to be using DBConsole?Quote:

OK, so earlier versions of Oracle don't support DBConsole which is why we still have OEM, but then the next question is (again!) why release 10g OEM with less functionality than the previous versions? Even if I use it to access my 9i databases I still can't see the locks.
hmnnn..maybe they want us to go back to primitive ways to do the command
line sql scripts using v$locks, this will make u a better DBA i guess...not
a lazy DBA :D
I'm wondering what part of "DBConsole and OEM Grid Control are two different products for two different needs" you are not getting.
I'm not getting any of it! I'm referring to the Client OEM, not Grid Control.
My point is that from a day to day admin point of view I need to view all my databases (both 9i & 10g), and in particular, because of a 'feature' of our 3rd party software, I need to manage locks. I can do this using the 9i client version of OEM, but not the 10g version. Yes, I do use DBConsole for the 10g databases, however it would be much easier using Client OEM, which is the point that I (and jennifer2007) am trying to make.
If you need or want to manage all your databases (both 9i and 10g) in a single interface you have to go for OEM Grid Control, that's the way, that's the future and -to my surprise, is a very good tool.
I don't get this previous post that says OEM does not show "locks" anymore... go to Targets/Databases/Performance/Locks
PAVB, we're still talking about 2 different beast here - I'm talking about Enterprise Manager Console, part of the Oracle Client package. From what you're saying I need Grid Console anyway so that's something else to do this weekend!:)
ok fine dear....just inform me when u successfully install it:)....as of now im
still loaded with other priorities, this give me no time to learn this grid thing.
Actually i browse the docs b4 but it seems hard to do and scary so i shelved it for a while.
To install 10g EM grid control, I have downloaded 10g grid control for 10.2.0.3 and grid control agent for 10.2.0.3. Do I need grid control agent install for 10g EM to work?
Ø grid control 10.2.0.3 zip file has 3731596 and 3822442 folders. Which should I install first? There is no proper doc explaining the install procedure.
Ø When I start with 3822442 which has setup.exe, it errors out.
Ø I tried with grid control agent which too errors out. I am struck here, can anyone pass on the installation procedures/steps in brief.
Thanks
there is a text file inside the zip file which explains how to install
from where you have downloaded there is also a link which explains how to install
