privilege to issue grants??

I am loggeg in as sys and when I try this command

SQL> 2
2* from dba_tab_grants
SQL> grant select production.dws_contract_info to migrate with grant option;

I get the following error

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00990: missing or invalid privilege

Shouldn't sys be able to do this??

1.-It's "GRANT SELECT ON"
2.-Only the user owner of the object can grant privileges to others.

No.

Unless object_owner has given privilege to sys with grant option.

So login as that user and issue the statement and it will work.

Well thats what I thought to, so I tried it last night(and again just now)
and got the same exact error???

log on as production to the database

then try
grant select on dws_contract_info to migrate with grant option;

Exactly, you should login as USER to grant permission of the users objects

yes, I initialy logged in as the user but was unable to grant it so I tried as sys and got the same err, I have rebooted the server and all errors I was getting are gone.
