This limit is the reason of your OS being 32-bit. Not oracle.
If your OS is 64-bit you do not have this limitation.
If your Oracle is installed on NT platform, yes 2G, on most Unix platforms 64G.
How's that? I have daily export on one of our NT box exceeding 35 GB in one pice....Quote:

At the time of writing most versions of export use the default file open API when creating an export file. This means that on many platforms it is impossible to export a file of 2Gb or larger to a file system file.Quote:

There are anyhow several options available to overcome 2Gb file limits with export.
Well, AFAIK on NT "by default" you are not limited to 2GB size for export, at least if you are storing to NTFS formated volume. There is no special option you have to enable for that on the OS level, you get that by default...
JModic,
Can you read from your 35 Gbyte export file? When I was a young dba (can that really happen?) I was using export for my backups and I thought everything was ok. I had one database that would create a 3 Gbyte .dmp file in Unix. I thought everything was ok until I tried to restore one night and couldn't read any of the export files. Called Oracle and they told me that even though Oracle would create the export file > 2 Gbytes, import could not read it on my version of Oracle/Solaris. Just an FYI.
Thanks for the warning, but on NT there is no such isue. I've read huge (>2GB) export files many times on many different releases, never had any problem...
Yes, I recently read that .dmp > 2G is rather an Unix issue (which could be solved anyway).Quote:
