hello one and all,
Would the error message above cause us to have ora-04030 errors or are they completely separate?
I raised an Oracle SR about it and they are suggesting that the Oracle process is running out of RAM (hitting the magical 2gb limit, didnt know there was one!)

You need to trace the listener and when this happens again you need to upload the tracefile to oracle support for analysis

would do but the trc file is massive over 2gb

Whats the operating system and ae you using shared server ?
How much memory is there on thsi server ? what version of oracle is it
You need to upload only the relevant posrtion of the listener trace and search for the time when this error occured and the corresponding trace in the long file not the entire 2Gb

Windows 2003 r2 32bit standard edition
We do have 4GB of ram on the server and are running oracle version 10.2.0.1
Would love to open the file and upload the appropriate part but I dont have a machine that is capable of opening the file.

use useful unix commands.. to achive what u wanted.. you can zip whole file and send it to oracle support.

Hmm i am not familair with windows but one thing i would try would be backup this 2gb logfile for now.
And then truncate the logfile using something like
type null >listener.log
and then see if you can reproduce the problem and then upload the trace file for analysis
setting up a AT job to do perodic log rotation so that the log file stays within manageable limits is also a good option

My dear, right, you can´t open the full file, but exactly WHAT stops you from reading ONLY the last n lines (last 1000 lines or so), and upload that to Support ????? IF your SO don´t have the appropriate TAIL command , download any suitable freeware, I use CYGWIN...

Thats a windows command the truncate the listener.log file to zero bytes test it first on a copy of listener log see how it truncate the file
You can also try downloading cygwin for windows Just goole for it if you are familair with unix style commands
