upgrading Oracle apps

Hi

Can any one send me the links and related docs to upgrade my apps 11.0.3.and valuable suggestions.

Plan1:
AS of now we are planning to go for only db upgrade from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.4 and at the same time we need to retain the same apps version. What patches should i apply as metalink docs are bit confusing in this regard?

Plan2:
Go for complete apps upgrade to 11.5.9 on 9.0.2 db.

As per the above plans which will take less down time?

After trying to upgrade 11.5.3 to 11.5.9 for two months, the only advice I can give you is hire a consultant.
