How to install ODBC Drivers from 9i Client CD ?

Hello all...

Ia trying to Install Oracle 9.2 Client on Windows 2000 Work Stations, and i picked "runtime" option. It didnot install ODBC Drivers. next i went into "custom" option, and i can't see ODBC for selection.

But when i pick "Administration" option for Installation, it installs ODBC Drivers too ( 9.2.0.0 Version)and i can't afford to install Adminstrator option on all Client PC's.

I looked into Oracle Website and all they have are 9.2.0.2, and upwards.

My 3rd party tool needs 9.2.0.0 ODBC which is what gets installed when i install Admin option.


Any help is appreciated.

On Windows ODBC drivers comes as dll's so may be you can install the ODBC driver on one machine, then copy the ORACLE_HOME\ODBC directory with the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> ODBC -> Oracle.... registry key to the rest of the clients. It should work.

There are a number of solutions to this problem:
1. Uninstall all older versions of the Oracle ODBC driver especially versions :
8.0.5, 8.0.6, 8.1.5, or 8.1.6.
Then try to install the Oracle ODBC Driver version 8.1.7.

2. Download the latest odbc driver patchset, and install it. Since that version
is multiple oracle home compliant.

3. Look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI to see if there is a
key named Oracle ODBC Driver. If you have already uninstalled the Oracle ODBC
driver and the key is still there remove it. And then go under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers
and remove the string that is called Oracle ODBC Driver.
Then try to install the Oracle ODBC Driver version 8.1.7.

Note:

If you are working on Windows 95/98 you must reboot after editing the
registry.

Explanation
-----------
Since there is already a version of the Oracle ODBC Driver register in the
registry you must first either remove the ODBC driver or upgrade to a version
of the Oracle ODBC Driver that is multiple Oracle home compliant. If you want
multiple version of Oracle ODBC Driver to coexist, then all installed Oracle
ODBC Drivers need to be Multiple Oracle Home Compliant. There is no support in
ODBC Drivers below 8.0.6.6.

Multiple Oracle Homes was first supported in versions:
8.1.7.2.0, 8.1.6.3.0 and 8.0.6.6.0 of the Oracle ODBC Driver. All other higher
versions have Multiple Oracle Homes Support.

one more option is u can find the ODBC 9.0.2. under Database utilities when u select custom option while installation.This way u can install the ODBC on Client.
