What OS are you using?
You may set TRACE_LEVEL_listener_name ON in listener.ora file to check it out.
Check your listener.log file size. Sometimes when the size becomes larger the listener hangs and might die.
Also see if you can find any clues in the listener.log file as well.
Hope that helps,

Did you look under you desk, or maybe in the hall. My listener is also pretty naughty...
POST some meaningful errors.
What error did you get??

Jim,
I apologize on his behalf, yesterday he ended up listening under some lady colleague's skirt. He's got to stay on the workstation, I'm gonna ground him..;)

1. if the listener.log file is great, can I delete the file?
2.the following is the error ,how can I resolve the issue?
04-NOV-2002 02:00:41 * (CONNECT_DATA=(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=mppiss1)(USER=oracle))
(COMMAND=stop)(ARGUMENTS=64)(SERVICE=LISTENER)(VERSION=36716544)) * stop * 0
No longer listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=ipc)(KEY=wxweb)))
No longer listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=10.38.13.251)(
PORT=1521)))

It seems that user ORACLE on host MPPISS1 has stopped it at 2:00 AM. Is it a scheduled job? Check it out.
You might establish a password to secure the listner using the Listner Control utility CHANGE_PASSWORD command.

Enable the listener tracing, start it up again, and check the trace file when stops again.
Hope that helps,
