The default SGA size on Solaris is 340+/- MB. I have a box with 896M ram and has the VISION and TEST databases and it is dreadfully slow. Of course, I am running both the middle tier and the database tier for both instances on this box.

My recommendation is 1G for the database server, and 512M for the middle tier for EACH environment you are going to setup. If you are putting the middle tier and the database tier on the same box, I would get 1.5G for each environment.

I don't know if the sizing is documented anywhere, but these are real-world numbers...

Hi,

Basically Oracle Recommends to have atleast 2 GB RAM for any Oracle Applications to work.

NOTE: NT Server can have a maximum of 4 GB RAM. If you have 2 GB RAM in your box, allocate atleast 1GB RAM for each database. Preferably one (either vision/prod/test)database for the box.

Srikanth

Hi Shrik, 28th April 2001 19:25 hrs chennai

Thanks a lot but still i need something concrete as
oracle recomm paper back or doc stating what you have stated. At present we have installed on 1 GB RAM vision and PROD .Still client or user connection has not been done.

I am sure then i may land up with problem after this.Expected 8 users.

Hi Padmam,

The following are known factors as far as Oracle Apps is concerned pertaining to Windows which I got by contacting Local Oracle Partner.

1) Memory: 2 GB Conventional RAM is required to run Oracle Applications. 512 MB can also be used and the remaining 1.5 GB allotted thru Virtual RAM. If you give like this, performance will degrade. If you have 1GB RAM only give the remaining 1 GB to the Virtual RAM.

2) Vision/Prod: I am Sure you should have faced some problems when you are installing Prod and Vis database simultaneously in the same machine. Here I faced problems and after getting the info from Oracle that this is not advisable I have installed the two databases in separate boxes.

3) Also for multi node installations, the two databases are not allowed to go in the same Box. It is a known bug in Windows and Oracle is working on this to rectify the same.

Cheers,
Srikanth
